Alien from a water world

Angel’s Quest

And thus, the rigors of training left behind, Marsden stood with his class. The Prime Ambassador glared at the assembly, like the kitchen fed him something disagreeable. The leader addressed the mass. He regaled them with tales of former glory, now tainted by their mission.  “You represent the finest of our race.  Where you go, some will not survive the journey. Others will not take the form. Those who succeed will never return to this place.”

“We do not go as we once did, into the heat of the battle. I apologize that memory sometimes clouds the present rote. We have taken the task to protect those who can harness the Sight. How that a small, insignificant planet can give birth to our greatest hope. I feel honoured you have accepted the challenge.” He saluted their courage before an unknown flight.  He spoke to each of the assignment.

“Marsden, this is your defining moment.  You have been assigned the human, Jennifer.  To watch over.  You have sufficient skill. Cast your protection well, and save her from the Demon’s kill.”

“Thank you for the assignment, Prime. I promise to serve her time.”

“The first one is always special. the humans live a short existence, and you will survive many. Remember to alter your self, in their terms.  Remain vigilant and steady.” The prime breathed heavily, water washing over his gills. “Remember our rule.  You are not to interfere if Jennifer makes knowing decisions.  She must learn the consequences or her free will.”

“I understand, father.”

“However, you are to protect her from the demons of the underworld and their ilk. At all cost. You remain her Guardian Angel forever. Be well my son.  I pray to hear word after the Sight Line delivers you across.”
